1. Iconic Appeal: The MkII GTI is a classic car with an instantly recognizable design, making it a desirable purchase for many enthusiasts.
2. Performance: The 1.8L 16V engine provides a spirited driving experience, offering a good balance between power and fuel efficiency.
3. Reliability: Volkswagen is known for building durable vehicles, and the MkII GTI is no exception. With proper maintenance, it can last for many years.
4. Aftermarket Support: Due to its popularity, there is a vast array of aftermarket parts available for the MkII GTI, allowing for customization and restoration.
Cons:1. Age and Wear: As with any 30-year-old car, there may be issues related to aging components, such as electrical or suspension problems.
2. Cost of Restoration: If the vehicle is not in pristine condition, the cost of restoration can quickly add up, especially for authentic or hard-to-find parts.
3. Fuel Efficiency: Compared to modern cars, the MkII GTI's fuel efficiency may be less appealing to those concerned with fuel costs.
4. Rarity: Finding a well-maintained, original example of the MkII GTI can be challenging, driving up the price for those that do come on the market.
Conclusion:The 1987-1989 Volkswagen GTI 16V MkII Grille Badge Emblem is an appealing purchase for those seeking a classic, fun-to-drive car with a strong following and excellent aftermarket support. However, potential buyers should be prepared for the challenges that come with owning an older vehicle, such as the cost of restoration, potential mechanical issues, and increased fuel consumption compared to modern cars.
Recommendation:Before making a purchase, it is highly recommended to perform a thorough inspection, ideally with the help of a Volkswagen specialist, to ensure the vehicle is in good condition and does not have any hidden issues. Additionally, budgeting for potential restoration costs and considering the ongoing cost of maintenance and fuel will help ensure a satisfying ownership experience.
It is VERY good condition BUT IT IS USED and does have some very minor road wear. Not economy slow boat. Time to part with some of the treasures. Red is still bright and vibrant, black background nice the silver looks good with only very light wear on it.
There are various versions of the GTI 16v badge around but this is one that was pictured on brochures and correct. No cracks, breaks, or other damage besides the very minor road wear noted above. This is a GTI 16V badge from the grille of 1987 - 1989 VW my private collection, I've had those one since 80s. But overall looks FAR better than most we see anymore, only slightly less good a brand new one.
